Discover Gyimesi Skanzen, an Oasis of Authenticity in the Heart of Transylvania

The Boroș Valley, part of the Lunca de Jos commune, Harghita County, is a place where history and nature meet in a unique way. This spectacular mountainous region, situated at the historic border between Transylvania and Moldova, is renowned for its traditional community and unaltered alpine landscapes. In the heart of this area, lies Gyimesi Skanzen, a holiday village and open-air ethnographic museum, aiming to preserve and promote local heritage.

A Holiday Village and Ethnographic Museum in the Open Air

Gyimesi Skanzen is a unique complex, created by saving, relocating, and meticulously restoring dozens of authentic wooden houses, over a century old, from the surrounding villages. Visitors can admire the specific vernacular architecture of the Csángó people from Ghimeș, which intertwines with local history and culture. Traditional watermills, barns, craft workshops, and the wooden chapel are just a few of the attractions waiting to be discovered.

The Ethnographic Exhibition - A Journey Through Local History and Culture

The ethnographic museum within Gyimesi Skanzen showcases an impressive collection of original household tools, looms, painted furniture, and traditional costumes with specific embroidery from the Trotuș Valley. Visitors can immerse themselves in the authentic rural world, surrounded by objects that have been used by generations of locals.

Accommodation in Restored Cottages - A Genuine Rural Experience

Guests of Gyimesi Skanzen can experience authentic rural life, staying directly in these restored cottages, which combine archaic charm with necessary comfort. In these over-a-century-old dwellings, visitors can feel at home, surrounded by history and nature.

Local Cuisine - An Authentic Culinary Experience

Local cuisine is another essential reason to visit Gyimesi Skanzen. Ancient recipes, based on mountain cheeses, forest mushrooms, and products from local households, are prepared with love and passion by locals. Visitors can savor these delicacies in an authentic and welcoming environment.

Outdoor Activities and Excursions

After the summer events, autumn brings a profound silence and spectacular chromaticism to the hills of Lunca de Jos. Leisurely hikes on the surrounding hills offer open panoramas of the entire Ghimeș Valley and traditional meadows. Visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, or simply taking a stroll through nature.

A Special Place for Those Seeking Authenticity and Relaxation

Gyimesi Skanzen is the ideal destination for those seeking authentic cultural tourism, disconnecting in nature, and preserving Transylvanian traditions. This special place offers a unique experience that combines history, culture, and nature, leaving an unforgettable memory.
