Introduction to Bunești

Most likely, not many ancestors are familiar with this name. The village of Bunești used to have another name, a Romanian but old one, recognized as Bundorf, Bondorf, or Bondref. Whatever name we give it, this settlement represents the residence of the commune with the same name, located right in Brașov County of our country.

Location and Significance

Thus, to recap briefly, the village of Bunești is situated in Brașov County, more precisely in Transylvania. Its name is somewhat amusing, considering what the correct designation for the inhabitants of this settlement would be.

Nevertheless, the village is important in terms of resources, given the salt massif found right beneath the locality.

Notable Personalities

The village of Bunești is also known for the personalities it boasts. The zoologist, oceanographer, and even eco-physiologist Eugen Pora was born here, holding the title of full member of the Romanian Academy during his lifetime.

Local Events

Although it is not extremely vast and does not have an overwhelming size, the village of Bunești hosts a series of local events that many of us would like to know about.

Flower Crown Celebration

  • The flower crown is a celebration specific to the day of St. Peter and Paul.
  • This celebration is characteristic of flowers that, according to history and traditions, brings hope and the joy of a fruitful land.
  • Additionally, this celebration is considered a dedication to the heroes lost in war, specifically in the conflicts for the liberation of the Transylvanian region.

Fortified Church and Commune Overview

The village of Bunești takes pride in the fortified church it possesses. On the other hand, the commune of Bunești oversees the villages of:

  1. Criț
  2. Mesendorf
  3. Roadeș
  4. Viscri
  5. The residence, namely the village of Bunești.

Demographics

Within this commune, the census indicated the existence of:

  • Over 64% Romanian citizens
  • 4% Hungarians
  • 3% Germans
  • 25% Roma

Other citizens do not play an extremely significant role in providing data about themselves. Additionally, the religious confession highlights the existence of over 90% Orthodox.

Population Trends

The population of the commune of Bunești is in continuous decline, with 2,357 inhabitants in 2011. Unfortunately, the current trend remains downward, which reduces the commune's chances of expanding and developing.

Conclusion

However, if you plan a weekend in the Brașov area, remember to make a small stop in this commune and, respectively, in the village of Bunești.

Surely, your eyes, body, and mind will appreciate the decision you made, because sometimes, now and then, it’s good to enjoy some relaxation and leave behind the noise of big, industrialized cities. Your holiday and, respectively, your vacation will bring you immense joy!
